The third annual Brandon Jackson Scholarship Basketball Shootout is planned for June 22 and there is still time for teams or players who want to sign up and donors who want to help fund the event.
The scholarship is in honor of , a 17-year-old Altadena resident with college dreams who was shot and killed in February of 2011. The scholarship will benefit local students headed for college.
Interested participants can visit the group's website to sign up or get more information.
The events in 2011 and 2012 helped fund $13,500 in scholarships which were awarded to six young people from the community who entered college in 2011 and 2012, according to the group.
The event was organized in 2011 in conjunction with the Clergy Community Coalition after a coach of Jackson's came up with the idea to honor him through the scholarship program.

This year the event will take place at John Muir High School (Brandon's alma mater) using two gyms which will allow up to 24 teams to participate, including younger teams (ages 7-12).
In addition to supporting the scholarship fund by entering a team or coming to watch the games ($5 entry fee), people can now donate by credit card from the website. And again this year local businesses are being asked to support the effort by making donations of cash or raffle prizes.
