Altadena Library Names 2012 Poet Laureate

Altadena poet Linda Dove has been named poet laureate for the Altadena Library for a term starting in May 2012, according to librarian Pauline Dutton.

Dove holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance literature and most recently taught at Yavapai College in Arizona, according to Dutton.  She is the author of the 2009 collection In Defense of Objects and the 2011 collection O Dear Deer.

She is active in Altadena RIPE, the community food bank, and with an Altadena-based Girl Scouts troop, according to Dutton.

Dove will be introduced at the library's annual Poetry and Cookies event on April 21 at 2 p.m.  Her work will be featured at that event and in the library’s annual poetry anthology.

What amounts to wonder lurks in things,/whole or broken, near, as distant as the gray/gargoyle where the eye’s balloon comes to rest./Rusted keys, horseshoe, rust itself, color of burnt/sienna.  The word itself: burnt sienna.”
