Altadena Teen Wins 3rd Place in National Pokémon Tournament

Altadena resident Demitri Comperos battled in a video game Pokémon tournament with more than 2,000 players and emerged with a 3rd-place showing and an invitation to the 2013 Pokémon World Championships in Vancouver, B.C. this August, according to a release sent out by the tournament's spokeswoman.

Comperos, 19, will be one of only 24 American players to compete in the world championships.  There will be players from Japan, Canada,  theUnited Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia and South Korea at the tournament.

Pokémon, an entertainment franchise was launched in Japan in 1996 and features contests between illustrated mythical creatures and their human trainers. The franchise includes a trading card game, animated TV series, video games, books and more.
