Updated: Friday Night Shooting Attempt Could Have Gang Connection

A shooting in Altadena Friday night may have a connection to a shooting that took place the weekend before.

An attempted shooting near the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Harriet Street Friday night is likely retaliation for a shooting that took place the weekend before last, according to Lt. Duane Allen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Three young men were in the area when somebody opened fire on them, according to police reports.  About 18-20 bullets were fired and the men jumped a fence to avoid getting shot.

Allen said detectives believe the assailants had identified the victims as members of a rival gang, and were targeting them in retalitation for a shooting that took place the previous weekend, either on night of March 24 or early morning of March 25.

In that shooting, a member of the Pasadena Denver Lanes gang was injured in a shooting after an argument and was taken to the hospital.

Allen did not know off-hand the exact location of that shooting.

A second shooting also took place on Friday night when a gunshot victim was found at a party that the department was called to, but that shooting does not appear to be gang-related, Allen said.

Editor's note: The original version of this story said this shooting might be connected to a Pasadena officer-involved shooting that took place the weekend before last.  That information is incorrect and was based on a misunderstanding of a police statement.  We regret the error.
