
The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell today for the 17th consecutive day, decreasing 1.5 cents to $3.893.
The average price is 7.4 cents less than one week ago and 45.4 cents lower than one year ago but 2.3 cents more than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price has dropped 16.9 cents over the past 17 days, including 1.5 cents on Thursday. The dropping prices were immediately preceded by a 14-day streak of rising prices totaling 20.1 cents.

The Orange County average price also decreased for the 17th consecutive day today following a 14-day streak of rising prices, dropping 1.4 cents to $3.861 -- 7.4 cents less than one week ago and 46.9 cents lower than one year ago but 1.9 cents more than one year ago.
The average price has dropped 17.9 cents over the past 17 days, including 1.7 cents on Thursday. The dropping prices were immediately preceded by a 14-day streak of rising prices totaling 20.3 cents.

"The last time wholesale prices were this low, Southern California drivers were paying on average about $3.60 a gallon, so clearly there is plenty more room for prices to drop further," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
"In about three weeks, wholesale prices have plunged by more than 50 cents. Lower crude oil prices have helped drive the drop, along with apparent solid production at local refiners."
