Local Officials Launching Eaton Canyon Safety Campaign

A group of fire, police and park officials will announce the launch of a campaign next week to increase public safety at waterfalls in Eaton Canyon

Representatives from local fire and police department, as well as U.S. Forest Service officials, will discuss recent deaths and accidents at the waterfalls in Eaton Canyon and discuss a public education campaign designed to help curtail them.

Last summer saw a huge number of accidents and rescues at the falls as well as one death.  

The event will be held on April 17 at 3 p.m. at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center at 1750 N. Altadena Drive.

  • Russ Guiney, Director - Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation
  • Assistant Chief Bill Niccum – Los Angeles County Fire Department
  • Captain John S. Benedict – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
  • Fire Captain Danny Serna – Pasadena Fire Department
  • Michael McIntyre, District Ranger – U.S. Forest Service 

Signs warning of the danger of the falls have been added to the trails in Eaton Canyon in recent months, which may be part of the campaign to increase awareness of the danger of the falls.
