Pasadena Jaycees Host Summer Event for Five Acres Foster Care Youth

The Pasadena Jaycees hosted its annual summer party for children and youth in foster care, who are living at Five Acres Residential program.

Celebrating the end of the school year, the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce, known as the Pasadena Jaycees, hosted its annual summer party on June 7 for Five Acres children and youth in foster care. A Pasadena chapter of JCI, a nonprofit organization of active young citizens who are committed to creating a positive impact in their communities, are comprised of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40, who want to improve the lives of those in the Pasadena area through community service.

“The team at Five Acres consistently does such meaningful and important work that the Pasadena Jaycees are honored to be a part of this long-standing partnership. This year we aimed to provide an event at a grander scale than we had before, partly in response to the difficulties their community has faced in the wake of the recent Eaton Fire,” said Marcus Baldwin, Pasadena Jaycees member. “It was truly a pleasure to be able to spread joy to the wonderful youth in Five Acres' care and to the dedicated staff who look after them.”

With the generous support of numerous companies, more than 50 children, staff and volunteers participated in the event at the main campus in Altadena. Members of the Pasadena Jaycees worked with Target, Lucky Boy, Book Alley, Remainders Creative Reuse, Michaels, The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company, Union Street Toys, SusieCakes®, Macy’s, Lakeshore®, Olive Garden, and Collector’s Paradise to provide carnival games, arts and crafts, books, and water activities.

“We are grateful for supporters like the Pasadena Jaycees who care about creating memorable childhood summer fun for the kiddos in our residential program,” said Jennifer Berger, Five Acres chief advancement officer. “The wide net of support they cast also drew support from many companies, which set the tone for an amazing experience. We appreciate community organizations and companies thinking of the foster care children and youth we serve. Our supporters truly wear their hearts on their sleeves and we value you.”

The Pasadena Jaycees always open their doors to other young professionals interested in making a meaningful impact in their community. For more information, contact them at info@pasadenajaycees.org. To learn more about the charity, visit https://5acres.org.

Since 1888, Five Acres has protected the most vulnerable members of our community: children. Serving nearly 7,000 children and family members annually across six counties, Five Acres now strives for permanency—a permanent, loving home—for all children in their care. The three pillars of safety, well-being and permanency provide the framework for its programs and guide the steps as the agency develops even more effective means of caring for children and families in crisis.
