Rescue Group Raises $1,500 for Medical Bills for 'Bo'

An Altadena-based rescue group has raised $1,500 for a dog with lymphoma following a fundraising sale we wrote about the week before last. The group has some other good news as well.

An Altadena-based rescue group that was fundraising to help a dog with cancer has put together around $1,500 for his treatment.

Altadena Patch first wrote about 'Bo' a five-year old rottweiler with lymphoma on February 6.

Catherine and Tom Peters, of Altadena, who run a dog rescue group called Trained Dogs for Adoption, were planning a yard sale designed to raise money for Bo's treatment, which they held last weekend.  Since then, both Webster's Fine Stationers and Webster's Community Pharmacy have also decided to collect funds for Bo.

And, since the charity sale, Bo has had another vet appointment and it comes with some good news: his cancer is in remission.

While that does not mean he is cured or will not face serious problems down the line, for the moment, Bo is healthy, Peters told Patch.

As for the $1500, Peters said she and her husband will set it aside in a separate fund to make sure it goes toward Bo if he does need chemotherapy down the line, which is a real possibility.

They had set their fundraising goal at $5,000, which is what they were told would be a worse-case scenario for treatment (Peters noted they were actually told this in regards to their own personal dog, who has the same condition).

Though the group does not have the full $5,000, Bo now has a significant rainy day fund for his future treatment.

The rottweiler is still available for eventual adoption and is currently staying with the Peters.

Bo will receive additional training to prepare him to transition into a home along with other dogs that the Peters' work with.  They focus on difficult cases that need training to get them ready for adoption, working with local shelters.

Their site's description of Bo describes him as loving to bask in the sun, walk in the park, and sit in people's laps.
