Thieves Targeting Chevy Silverado Tailgates

The Altadena Sheriff's Station is warning that thieves in Altadena have been stealing Chevy Silverado tailgates from parked cars.

Watch out if you have a Chevy Silverado: there have been a rash of recent thefts of bumpers from those vehicles.

The alert about the theft of the tailgates of that particular model was sent out over the weekend by volunteer Carolyn Seitz.

Lt. Duane Allen, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, confirmed to Patch that the department has logged seven recent thefts of Silverado tailgates.

But why the Silverado?  Allen said he does not know whether the car part has value or it is simple vandalism.  He said detectives also are not certain why the Silverado in particular has been targeted lately.

Those people who do own the car should take whatever precautions they can: parking inside, behind a gate or fence, or anywhere else away from the public, especially while parking overnight, is advisable.
