United Charity Foundation Grants $50,000 to Five Acres for Historic Cottage Renovations
This grant supports the Five Acres' Cottage Renovation Project, which has raised over $270,000 to enhance the safety and comfort of children

United Charity Foundation, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit committed to supporting health, arts, education, and community initiatives, has awarded a $50,000 grant to Five Acres to aid in the renovation of the agency’s historic residential cottages. For 137 years, Five Acres has promoted safety, well-being, and permanency to nearly 7,000 children and families across Southern California. This grant supports the Five Acres’ Cottage Renovation Project, which has raised over $270,000 to enhance the safety and comfort of children and youth in its care.
Founded by Dr. Carl Moy and Mrs. Linda Moy, first-generation Chinese and Taiwanese immigrants who arrived in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, United Charity Foundation reflects the Moys’ deep-rooted commitment to giving back to the community that welcomed them decades ago. A respected healthcare professional and a successful business entrepreneur, the Moys are well-known philanthropists throughout the San Gabriel Valley and greater Los Angeles County.
“United Charity Foundation supports non-profit organizations that support children and families. Dr. Moy and I feel that Five Acres embodies the saying, 'Everybody needs somebody,'” said Mrs. Moy. “The Five Acres staff are there for the children who have been through so much trauma. Five Acres is the kids' ‘somebody’ when they have no one else. We have been longtime supporters of Five Acres because we see this organization's dedication to caring for foster children.”

The Moys, joined by Vivian Chan, toured Five Acres and saw firsthand the impact that modernized living spaces will have on the children and staff. The renovation has included much-needed upgrades such as new roofing and interior improvements, with project completion expected by June 30.
"The funds we raise help us make critical improvements to Five Acres cottages and facilities used by foster children in our residential care,” said Five Acres Chief Advancement Officer Jennifer Berger. “United Charity Foundation’s generous donation will help keep our facilities in excellent condition so that kids can continue to thrive in safe, comfortable spaces."

About Five Acres
Since 1888, Five Acres has protected the most vulnerable members of our community: children. Serving nearly 7,000 children and family members annually across six counties, Five Acres now strives for permanency—a permanent, loving home—for all children in their care. The three pillars of safety, well-being and permanency provide the framework for its programs and guide the steps as the agency develops even more effective means of caring for children and families in crisis.
