RTC Approves Interim Trail on Santa Cruz Rail Line After Contentious Vote (goodtimes.sc) β A major transportation decision will bring an interim bike and pedestrian trail along the rail corridor from Santa Cruz to State Park Drive in Aptos, protecting a key $96 million state grant. The RTCβs close vote keeps future passenger rail options alive while aiming to open the corridor sooner for local walkers and cyclists.

2. PG&E drones to inspect Central Coast power lines ahead of winter storms (ksbw.com) β PG&E will be flying inspection drones over Aptos and other Santa Cruz County communities in the next three weeks to photograph power lines before winter storms hit. The daylight-only flights wonβt affect your electricity and will focus solely on PG&E equipment, helping crews spot maintenance issues or vegetation that could otherwise cause outages.

How Live Like Coco Is Growing Young Readers in Santa Cruz (goodtimes.sc) β Aptos families are closely tied to Live Like Coco, a literacy nonprofit honoring former Aptos student Colette βCocoβ Lazenby and now serving thousands of local kids with free birthday books and a new bookmobile. Dr. Bill Ciancio, 81, fired as SLV's boys basketball coach (fresnobee.com) β A former Aptos High coach, Dr. Bill Ciancio, has been fired six games into his second season leading San Lorenzo Valley Highβs boys basketball team after conflicts with his assistants and a disputed locker-room incident. Ciancio, who previously coached lacrosse, football, and basketball at Aptos from 2018β23, says he feels betrayed and doubts heβll coach again, while school administrators declined to discuss personnel details.
