Arcadia Students Well Above State Average in Math and English

Arcadia Unified School District students saw gains overall in English and math proficiency levels.

The California Standards Tests (CSTs) test scores released by the state Monday show that students at the as a whole improved their English and Language Arts, as well as math, scores from 2010.

The scores improved by 1.3 and .05 percentage points, respectively.

AUSD students performed well above the state average. In math, 82.4 percent of Arcadia students scored proficient or above, as opposed to 50 percent statewide. In English, 83.9 percent of Arcadia students scored proficient or above, as opposed to 54 percent statewide.

Some schools in Arcadia saw siginificant gains.

scores jumped from 82.4 percent proficient or above in English to 89.4 percent. Scores in math climbed from 89.4 percent to 91.1. improved by leaps and bounds, rising from 86.4 percent proficient or above in English to 89.4 percent. Math scores improved from 89 percent at proficient or above to 92.3 percent.

Meanwhile, other schools saw mixed results.

English scores rose from 76.9 percent at proficient or above to 78.1 percent, but math scores fell from 68.3 percent at proficient or above to 67.3 percent.
