Solar Eclipse Seen Over SGV

Angelenos won't see such a spectacular celestial event for the next 59 years.

A rare solar eclipse occurred Sunday—with the moon blocking out the sun completely except for ring of fire—and the next such phenomenon won't be seen until 2071.

San Gabriel Valley photojournalist Henk Friezer photographed the occurrence from the porch of his Eagle Rock home without the aid of filters or other enhancing photographing aids. He recorded the celestial evebt in its natural state from about 6:25 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. He did not witness the touted "ring of fire," though, which was evidently not visible locally.
