• Another SLO County city to start fining hosts for illegal fireworks. What to know (sanluisobispo.com) — Atascadero residents now face steep fines if illegal fireworks are launched from gatherings on their property, after the City Council approved a new social host ordinance on Dec. 9. Hosts can be fined up to $10,000 per day and may face misdemeanor charges, while the city also seeks to recover emergency response costs and will roll out an outreach campaign explaining the rules.

Vacancies Kept Growing (governing.com) — Severe staffing shortages at Atascadero State Hospital are worsening despite California spending heavily on bonuses and temporary medical workers, a new state audit finds. Vacancy rates for psychiatrists there are the highest among audited facilities, driving safety concerns, overtime, and staff turnover. The report urges a statewide recruitment push and better pay and hiring practices to stabilize care in Atascadero and similar institutions.
