11-Year-Old IE Child Killed In I-15 Crash Over Holiday Weekend
The crash that was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday, July 6.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — An 11-year-old Apple Valley resident was killed in a weekend crash on Interstate 15, just south of Glen Helen Parkway, the California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County coroner's office confirmed Monday.
Rhylin Ovalle died in the crash that was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the CHP, the child was a passenger in a white Ford Expedition that was traveling north at an unknown speed in the #2 lane of I-15 when, for reasons unclear, the vehicle veered sharply to the left.

The Ford driver lost control and struck the concrete center median. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its wheels in I-15's southbound lanes, the CHP reported.
Two southbound vehicles, a white Tesla Model 3 and a black Maserati Grecale, became involved in the crash. Occupants inside those vehicles were unhurt, according to the CHP.

In addition to Rhylin, five other people were inside the Ford. Those five were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The coroner reported that Rhylin died at the crash scene.
It's unclear how the occupants inside the Ford were related.
The crash cause remains under investigation by the CHP. The agency is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information to contact Officer J. Gonzalez at the CHP San Bernardino Area office: 909-383-4227.
