BANNING, CA — The attic of a Banning home caught fire Wednesday evening, displacing two people, authorities say.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., firefighters arrived at the home in the 300 block of East Barbour Street where smoke rose from the area around the chimney, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Upon firefighter arrival, billowing smoke rose from the chimney, leading to the discovery of the attic fire, which was fully knocked down at 5:45 p.m.

The department shared that units remained at the location for at least one hour to perform overhaul and mopping-up efforts.

Two adults displaced by the flames declined Red Cross assistance.
