6 People Killed, Others Injured In Fiery Gilman Springs Road Crash

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Firefighters worked Monday afternoon to contain a brush fire along Gilman Springs Road that was triggered by a three-vehicle crash that killed six people.
The fatal incident was reported around 2:22 p.m. on Gilman Springs at Bridge Street, in the unincorporated Lakeview community near Mystic Lake.
At 3 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that Gilman Springs Road was closed in both directions for an "unknown" duration.

The road was closed between state Route 79 and Allesandro Boulevard, according to authorities.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported that when crews arrived at the scene, all the vehicles were on fire and the blaze spread into nearby vegetation.

The agency initially reported that four people died at the scene and another four crash victims were sent to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to minor, according to the fire department.
Shortly after 5 p.m., the fire department increased the death toll to six, and said all of the fatalities occurred at the scene.
Information about the victims was not released. Identities of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.
Firefighters stopped the blaze at 3.74 acres, though crews remained at the scene for approximately two hours to check for hotspots, the fire department reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
