4-Year-Old California Boy Shoots, Kills 2-Year-Old Cousin

The grandfather was arrested for child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.

INLAND EMPIRE, CA -- A California grandfather was arrested last week after his four-year-old grandson shot and killed his two-year-old cousin. The incident was reported at 9:16 a.m. Friday at a home on Duffy Street in Muscoy, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The victim, a girl, was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m., sheriff's officials said.

An investigation determined the boy found the gun belonging to his grandfather, Cesar Lopez, officials said.

Lopez was arrested and will be booked for child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information was available, officials said.
