72-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Thrown From ATV

A Mountain Center woman was thrown from an ATV and suffered injuries "she was not able to recover from," a CHP spokesperson said.

BEAUMONT, CA — A 72-year-old woman died after she was thrown from an ATV, authorities say. The driver, identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau as Catherine Andrus, of Mountain Center, was the only person injured in the crash on a dirt road in Riverside County late Tuesday.

The incident was investigated by the California Highway Patrol of the San Gorgonio Pass Area. CHP Sgt. Veeke Rodriguez said Andrus had been on her way home around 9:30 that night.

"For unknown reasons, the party either drove up an embankment or hill, causing the ATV to overturn. She was partially ejected from the vehicle," Rodriguez said, adding the Andrus "suffered injuries she was not able to recover from."
