82-Year-Old Woman On Cellphone Struck, Killed By Vehicle
The woman was out walking just after sunset on Cypress Avenue, near Alvarado Street, in Redlands.
REDLANDS, CA — A driver who struck and killed an 82-year-old woman in Redlands last week was cooperating with investigators, the Redlands Police Department announced Tuesday.
The fatality occurred just after sunset Friday, Oct. 10. The woman, whose identity was not released, was struck by a car while crossing Cypress Avenue near Alvarado Street.
"Witnesses reported the woman was walking east on Cypress at about 6:30 p.m. while talking on her cellphone," according to the police department. "As she approached Alvarado Street, she crossed the two eastbound lanes of Cypress diagonally. As she crossed into the westbound lane, she was struck by a 2004 Toyota Prius traveling west on Cypress."

The woman died at the scene.
The Toyota driver immediately stopped and was cooperative with police. There was no indication of driver impairment, though the incident is still under investigation, according to the police department.
