The training is for those who want to learn how to teach people to recycle, compost and live sustainably. Volunteers will assist at classes and events, engage with the public, answer questions about recycling and composting programs and distribute educational materials.

"If you enjoy meeting people, learning new things, and advocating for the environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you," the county said in a news release on Thursday.

Volunteers must commit to attending an orientation and training session. Ten hours of volunteer time must be contributed each year to remain active. Volunteers can choose dates and locations of events across the county that fit their schedules.

For those who want to be more involved, volunteers can become certified master composters, who teach classes as well as mentor students and oversee community gardens.
