Armed Man Barricades Himself With A Child In Riverside County: RSO

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A probationer who allegedly threatened his family with a knife, then barricaded himself and a child inside their Riverside County home, was behind bars Tuesday.

Armando Martinez Jr., 24, of Moreno Valley was being held at Banning's Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon and violating his probation. He is being held on $750,000 bail, according to jail records.

The investigation into Martinez began shortly after 8 a.m. Monday when deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were called to a home in the 13000 block of Bearberry Drive. They were told Martinez was armed with a knife and threatening family members.

When deputies arrived, Martinez barricaded himself inside the residence with a juvenile, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputies eventually pulled Martinez from the home and the child was found unharmed, the sheriff's department reported. Jail records show Martinez's arrest took place approximately 3.5 hours after the incident began.
