Banning Brush Fire Forces Road Closure
The blaze, dubbed the Edna Fire, was reported at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at state Route 243 and Mount Edna Road, according to authorities.
UPDATE 10 a.m. Aug. 23: The fire burned 33 acres, and containment was 95%. Fire crews will remain on the scene throughout the day, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
BANNING, CA — A brush fire burning Thursday afternoon in Banning has scorched 10 acres, according to authorities.
The blaze, dubbed the Edna Fire, was reported at 3:30 p.m. at state Route 243 and Mount Edna Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Banning police closed SR 243 at Smith Creek Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol. The agency reported that the fire was burning on both sides of the highway.
There was no word on what started the blaze.
