Banning Fire Destroys Building, Vehicle

BANNING, CA — Firefighters wee investigating Monday the cause of a blaze that broke out Sunday afternoon in Banning. The fire started in a patch of brush and spread to a nearby home before it was contained.

The fire was first reported at 5 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of N. Alessandro Street, near the area of North San Gorgonio Avenue and Wilson Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

"Firefighters arrived on scene of a quarter acre of vegetation on fire that had extended into a garage that was fully involved in fire," the fire department said of the incident.

Images from the scene show flames pouring out of the structure as crews worked to contain the fire. Crews managed to stop the forward spread of the fire and doused the flames in the garage by 7 p.m., officials said.

The garage and a vehicle were destroyed, according to the fire department.
