Banning Has Six Applicants for Vacant City Council Seat: Interviews Nov. 19

The City of Banning has received applications from six individuals to fill the council seat vacated when Mayor Pro Tem Bob Botts resigned in October, and they are scheduled to be interviewed at a special meeting Nov. 19.

The four remaining council members unanimously agreed Oct. 15 to appoint Botts' replacement and avoid a special election, due to costs and time considerations.

In alphabetical order, the six applicants are:

- Sonia Barandiaran

- Mary Hamlin

- George Moyer

- Diego Rose

- Lyndon Taylor

- Jerry Westholder

Westholder, listed in a city agenda as Candidate #1, describes himself on his application as lead pastor for Highland Springs Fellowship.

Taylor, listed as Candidate #2, describes himself as CEO of ChildCare USA.

Moyer, listed as Candidate #3, describes himself as retired.

Hamlin, listed as Candidate #4, describes herself as retired.

Barandiaran, listed as Candidate #5, describes herself as a caregiver.

Rose, listed as Candidate #6, describes himself as the owner of Boondocks Tavern.

Candidate interviews are scheduled at a special meeting of the city council beginning at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Banning Civic Center, 99 E. Ramsey St.
