Banning High School Football Gets New Head Coach
He may be a fresh face to the Broncos, but John Tyree comes to Banning High School with extensive coaching experience and a winning record.

BANNING, CA — John Tyree has been a head coach for 35 years. Now in his 80s, he'll be leading the Banning High School Broncos football program.
“We are honored to welcome Coach Tyree as our next head football coach,” said Keith Chann, director of athletics at Banning High School. “He has a passion for football, a desire for success, and drive to rebuild programs in need. He has built winning programs from the ground up at almost every stop on his coaching journey. We are pleased and excited to bring Coach Tyree into the Banning High School family.”
His three-plus decades of coaching experience have taken the octogenarian from Oklahoma to California. Most recently, he served as head coach at Calexico High School in Imperial County.

According to his bio, Tyree has compiled 227 wins over his career, as well as two California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championships and one runner-up finish. His teams in California and Oklahoma have made the playoffs 22 times.
Tyree was twice named CIF-Southern Section Coach of the Year, along with Southwest Oklahoma Coach of the Year. Tyree is also a member of the Inland Empire Football Hall of Fame and the Imperial Valley Football Hall of Fame, according to his bio.

The Banning Broncos open up the 2021 season versus Canyon Springs at 7 p.m. on August 27 .
