BANNING, CA — A man wanted in connection to a homicide in Banning has been caught and arrested, Banning police say. Abel Martinez, Jr., who was previously named a 'person of interest' in the Oct. 7 shooting death of 25-year-old Mark Anthony Fisher, was booked into the Banning jail on Thursday on suspicion of murder.

According to the Banning Police Department, Martinez was tracked down to the Good Night Inn in the 1600 block of Industrial Park in Redlands on Thursday. At 11:42 a.m. that day, the Redlands Police Department and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office Gang Impact Team helped Banning police take him into custody.

Martinez, a Beaumont resident, and a Banning woman who had also been named a person of interest in the case were both arrested at the motel, according to police. Ashley Phillips, 27, was booked into jail on an unrelated felony arrest warrant.
