Beaumont Driver Accused Of Intentionally Killing Man With Pickup Truck

Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide after a driver fled the scene where a man was fatally run over near an Arco.

BEAUMONT, CA — A driver was arrested on suspicion of fleeing after intentionally striking and killing a man with a pickup truck in Beaumont on Tuesday night, police said.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, the Beaumont Police Department announced Wednesday.

Around 11 p.m., officers responded to the 400 Block of E 1st St., near an Arco gas station and determined that a driver had run over a man and fled the area before police arrived. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 30 minutes later, police got a call about a pickup truck matching the suspect vehicle description that had just gotten into a crash in Cabazon — about 13 miles away.

Officers raced to the area and arrested the suspect, whose identity has also not been released.

The suspect was still in custody Wednesday and receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained during the unrelated collision in Cabazon.

"At this time there are no additional details, but investigators believe this act was intentional," Beaumont police said in a statement.
