UPDATE 9:20 A.M.: A major police presence near Beaumont High School on Thursday morning continues to prompt area road closures and is affecting schools in the area. However, police tell Patch that the lockdown at Beaumont High School has been downgraded to a "lock out," meaning students can move around the campus — but people are not being allowed on or off the campus. Parents may not yet pick up their students.

The activity is in connection to a shooting that was reported at a mobile home park across the street, on Cherry Valley Boulevard around 7:30 a.m., according to sheriff's Dep. Robyn Flores. However, Flores says that neither a victim or suspect has been located at this time.

According to the deputy, officials are canvassing the area to confirm if there was indeed a shooting and if there are any suspects.

Law enforcement officials from the sheriff's department, including a SWAT team, the Beaumont Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire have all been spotted out at the scene.

BEAUMONT, CA — Beaumont police placed Beaumont High School on lockdown on Thursday morning due to nearby law enforcement activity, officials tell Patch.

Details are limited at this time, but it is in connection to a case being handled by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department in nearby Cherry Valley.

"As a precaution, they requested we put the high school on lockdown," Beaumont Police Spokeswoman Marcedes Cashmer. "There's no threat to the students that we believe at this time, it's precautionary."

The lockdown was issued at 8:45 a.m., five minutes before classes are scheduled to start at the school, according to police. Therefore, those students who arrived after the lockdown was issued were escorted by police via the south entrance into the campus.
