Beaumont Shooting Reported, Suspect Sought

Police say one person was shot in the incident.

BEAUMONT, CA — Beaumont police are searching Thursday for the person responsible for an early morning shooting in town. The incident left one person hospitalized with a gunshot wound, but he is expected to survive.

Police say the shooting was reported around 2 a.m. in the area of 6th Street and Xenia Avenue.

"The witness reported hearing subjects talking, then hearing gun shots and seeing someone laying on the ground," police said. "Officers responded to the area and immediately located one victim with a gunshot wound."

Though police searched the area immediately, they were unable to locate the suspect. That person is described as a Hispanic male, perhaps a juvenile, of a "small build" who was wearing a grey hat, dark-colored jacket and pants, police said.

As of Thursday morning the victim remained hospitalized, but the adult male's injuries were described as "non-life-threatening." The victim was not publicly identified.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation and it's not clear if the case is gang-related, police said.
