Beaumont Unified School District Superintendent Mays Kakish is trying to put another general obligation bond measure on the ballot in 2026

Beaumont Unified School District (BUSD)Superintendent Mays Kakish is trying to put another general obligation bond measure on the ballot in 2026 after Measure E failed in 2024.
The BUSD is not getting any more money from the citizens of The City of Beaumont. We are being taxed to the extreme. She is framing the argument that “the average cost of childcare for a 4-year old is $13,020.” She further claims that “these high prices are a serious concern for many of our families” and that “Measure E would have cost the average homeowner $8 a month in TAXES” and solved their fiscal problems. The Chief Business Official for the district stated in an interview that the district’s general fund budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year was $227 million dollars. The school district spent $51,510 dollars for a recount that did not change the accuracy of the votes and voices of the voters. The district seriously underestimates the actual cost to the taxpayers and doesn’t think that $51,510 dollars for the recount was an issue.
In reality it was a $148 million dollar bond that would have cost the residents of The City of Beaumont $310 million dollars over the lifetime of the bond. We already know what the City of Beaumont did with our CFD 93-1 funds in the years prior to 2015. The former city manager and the majority of the city council members were arrested as well as the former police chief. We don’t need to pay additional taxes for childcare and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes. We also don’t need to pay additional taxes to subsidize the exorbitantly high salaries of the top officials in the district. Get creative and find ways to fund these programs, just not on the backs of the community.

Mays Kakish in 2024 pulled in $458,708 dollars in salary and benefits. We are not the piggy bank for the district and Measure E did not pass because we understand who is really getting paid.
