BEAUMONT, CA — The San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society will shine a spotlight on Cabazon’s colorful past at its upcoming meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m.

Historian Steve Lech will deliver a presentation exploring the “shenanigans” that unfolded during the brief period when Cabazon was incorporated as a city. During those years, the desert community was home to several gambling establishments and a cast of lively characters who played a role in its short-lived experiment in cityhood.

Though incorporating the hamlet ultimately “didn’t work out,” as the Historical Society notes, the history of Cabazon’s gambling era remains a fascinating chapter in the region’s story, organizers said.
