BEAUMONT, CA — A vehicle was destroyed and a gas station was partially damaged Thursday evening when an SUV caught fire — right next to a fuel pump, police and fire officials report.

The fire happened on Thursday around 6:24 p.m. at the Shell station on Beaumont Avenue and 1st Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials tell Patch that a dozen firefighters responded to the scene to find a "single vehicle fully involved next to the pump."
