Couch Flies Off Moving Pickup, 6-Year-Old Girl Injured: CHP Seeks Info

A couch flew off a moving pickup Saturday on State Route 62 and struck another vehicle, injuring a 6-year-old girl, and the pickup driver kept going, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Nov. 9 when Ariel Gilman of Lake Havasu City was driving west on the 62 near Sunfair Road, just east of Morongo Basin CHP headquarters, Highway Patrol Officer Alex Scott said in a statement distributed Tuesday.

"A pickup truck was traveling the opposite direction, eastbound towards Twentynine Palms," Scott said. "A couch flew out of the back of the pickup and struck Gilman's vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck failed  to stop at the scene and continued traveling towards Twentynine Palms."

An update on the injured girl was not available Nov. 12.

Anyone with more information was urged to call the California Highway Patrol in Joshua Tree at (760) 366-3707.
