Deadly Crash On I-10 In Calimesa Area Prompts Hours-Long Closure

CALIMESA, CA — A motorist was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash along Interstate 10 in the Calimesa area, the California Highway Patrol reports. The wreck was reported at 2:22 a.m. along the westbound side of the roadway, east of Oak Glen Road.

Preliminary CHP reports indicate a vehicle landed on its roof in the westbound lanes after crashing. No other vehicles were involved in the initial crash, but multiple other small crashes were reported in the same area in the following minutes.

Due to debris from the crash, all lanes of the westbound side of I-10 were closed for several hours, according to Caltrans. One eastbound lane was also shut down.

Authorities said that as of 6:45 a.m., all lanes were back open, however traffic reports indicated a slowdown remained in the area.
