Details of a crash early Saturday on State Route 79 that resulted in the death of the son of San Jacinto's city manager were re-capped Monday by the California Highway Patrol.
A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night for Brandon Miles Hults, 20, of Hemet, outside his parents' home in San Jacinto. His brother, Brian Hults, also died in a traffic crash, in May 2006.
According to the CHP, the crash occurred shortly after 2:10 a.m. July 27 on the southbound 79, north of Gilman Springs Road.
Brandon Hults was driving a 2003 Subaru Impreza south on the 79 when he "failed to maintain control of his vehicle, colliding with the concrete center median wall," CHP spokesman Darren Meyer said in a statement. "The vehicle subsequently traveled back across the traffic lanes, colliding with the metal guard rail on the west side of the roadway."
The impact caused major damage to the Subaru, Meyer said. Hults, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The two passengers in the Subaru, Levante Hensley and Shane Doughty, were both restrained in the vehicle and sustained only minor injuries," Meyer said. "They were both transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center."
A collision investigation by San Gorgonio Pass CHP personnel was continuing.
Brandon Hults was an avid soccer player since age 5, and he lived with his girlfriend in a Hemet apartment and worked for the Valleywide Recreation Park District as a maintenance worker, according to his family. He is survived by his sisters Miranda, 22, and Haley, 17, and his mother, Tamara.
