Discover The Mysterious Origins Of 'The Song Of Banning' At This Event
A historian will speak on the origins of Banning's historic song and the decades-long mystery behind its composer's disappearance.
BANNING, CA — A local historian will shed light on one of the region’s enduring mysteries in September: the story behind “The Song of Banning.”
On Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m., historian Pat Murkland will host a free presentation at the Beaumont Woman’s Club Community Center.
There, Murkland will discuss the origins of the city’s song, which was selected in 1941 after a highly competitive contest. While the community embraced the tune for years, the winning composer disappeared shortly after and was never seen or heard from again, according to organizers.
