Domestic Violence Suspect Surrenders After 2-Hour Standoff: Banning PD

The standoff resolution involved the Banning Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

BANNING, CA — A man suspected of domestic violence in Banning surrendered to police Monday following a two-hour standoff, according to authorities.

Andre Jon Lavoie Jr., 42, of Banning was arrested at 2:44 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Murray Street, and booked into Banning's Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting corporal injury on his spouse, making terrorist threats, and preventing his wife from calling for help, jail records show.

According to the Banning Police Department, a disturbance at the couple's home on N. Murray was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. When police officers arrived at the residence, Lavoie's wife stated that her husband had assaulted her, threatened her life with a firearm, and prevented her from calling for help.

Lavoie was not at the home when officers arrived, so a call was sent to local law enforcement agencies asking them to be on the lookout for him.

On Monday, Banning police were called back to the couple's home because Lavoie had returned. When officers rolled up, they spotted Lavoie in the front yard, but he quickly ran into the home and refused to come out, according to Banning PD.

A police perimeter was set up, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department was called in to assist.

After approximately two hours, Lavoie surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
