A checkpoint targeting impaired and unlicensed drivers is scheduled Friday night and early Saturday at an undisclosed location in Moreno Valley, according to the Sheriff's Department.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 to to 2:30 a.m. Sept. 7, Moreno Valley police Sgt. Lee Tainter said in a statement.
Moreno Valley contracts for its police services with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
"Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment," Tainter said. "Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily.
"When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving," Tainter said. "Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000."
Checkpoints and other traffic operations are paid for in part by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
