UPDATED: The fire was first reported around 1:30 p.m. Monday. Drivers are urged to steer clear.

BEAUMONT, CA — Emergency responders were sent to the scene Monday of a fire alongside Interstate 10 in the Beaumont area. The blaze was first reported around 1:30 p.m. along the eastbound side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Preliminary CHP reports indicated a big rig caught fire near the Brookside Avenue overcrossing (see map below for location). As of 1:51 p.m., all eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed and traffic reports indicated major delays in the area. However, by 3:10 p.m., only the right hand shoulder remained blocked off to traffic.
Police said Brookside Avenue from Cherry Valley Lakes RV Park to Desert Lawn Drive was closed for about an hour due to the incident.
