Firefighters Still Battling RivCo Blaze: Over 850 Acres Burn

MORENO VALLEY, CA — Firefighters worked through the night and will continue battling a rapidly growing brush fire Monday that burned about 867 acres east of Moreno Valley.

The fire was reported around 1:10 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Alessandro Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire was first estimated at 77 acres but had grown to 867 acres by 7 p.m. and was 20% contained by lines of cleared vegetation, fire officials said.

Aircraft were pressed into service while ground units worked their way through the terrain that was difficult to access.

No injuries or evacuations were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
