High Winds Damage Water Tank at Tram Mountain Station: Restaurant Closed, Limited Food Service Available

High winds on Monday damaged the roof of a water tank at the Palm Springs Tramway's Mountain Station, prompting closure of the Peaks Restaurant and limited food service at the attraction's Pines Café, a tram spokeswoman tells Banning-Beaumont Patch.

"They did clock an 81-mile-per-hour wind gust up there yesterday," Nancy Nichols, marketing manager said in a phone interview Oct. 29.

Gusting winds on Monday forced the closure of the tram for the day and National Weather Service instruments recorded gusts up to 85 mph east of the Pass.

The tram was open again Tuesday with tram cars operating normally.

Potable water is available for customers along with packaged foods and beverages. Tram officials anticipate resuming normal food operations by the end of this week.
