
Law enforcement agencies across Riverside County made 250 DUI arrests in the past week, an increase for arrests during the same time period a year ago, Hemet police said Friday.
"The first seven days of the Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local, routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 30 DUI deployments in Riverside County," Lt. Eric Dickson said in a statement.
From 12:01 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2013, through midnight, Thursday, December 19, 2013, officers representing 30 Riverside County law enforcement agencies have arrested 250 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In 2012, 230 DUI arrests occurred during the same seven day time period. There have been no alcohol-related deaths reported which mirrors last year's results.
For the second weekend of the campaign, a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint will be conducted in the cities of Coachella, Eastvale, La Quinta, Menifee and Perris.
Dedicated DUI saturation patrols will be deployed in the cities of Corona, Desert Hot Springs, Hemet, Palm Desert, Perris, Temecula and Riverside. A multi-agency DUI task force is deploying in the cities of Banning, Beaumont, Hemet and San Jacinto.
