I-10 Stolen Car, Robbery Pursuit Ends With Injury Crash In Banning

RivCo deputies followed a stolen vehicle suspected of being involved in a robbery from Whitewater to Banning.

BANNING, CA — An I-10 pursuit of a suspected stolen-vehicle ended with an injury crash in Banning on Wednesday morning, officials say.

Four people were taken into custody at the scene of the crash, near 22nd Street and Ramsay, and one person, who was involved in the crash after the pursuit, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived at Haugen Lehmann Way and Tamarack Road in Whitewater on reports of a stolen vehicle possibly involved in a robbery, Lt. Deirdre Vickers told Patch.

"Deputies checked the area and found the vehicle nearby at Main Street and the I-10 in Cabazon," she said.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, though it failed to yield. A pursuit ensued, heading west on the I-10 freeway, toward Banning.

The vehicle exited I-10 at 22nd Street in Banning, where it collided with an uninvolved motorist at West Ramsey Street.


The injured person was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

"The driver of the stolen vehicle, along with three additional suspects, was all taken into custody," she said.

Their names and charges have not been released as of this report.

The investigation into the stolen vehicle and possible robbery is ongoing, according to Vickers. No additional information is available at this time.
