Cabazon Home Erupts In Fire Near Home Belonging To Parents Of Missing Baby

The blaze broke out Tuesday evening. The cause is under investigation.

CABAZON, CA — A Cabazon home caught fire on the same street the parents of missing baby Emmanuel Haro live on Tuesday evening, but authorities have confirmed that there is likely no connection.

The house fire was reported at 6:03 p.m. in the 50000 block of Ramona Street, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single-story single-family home fully involved in flames. A second structure had an attached shed that caught fire and some vegetation also burned, the agency reported.

The fire was contained at 7:15 p.m.

Red Cross was summoned to the scene for a man and a woman displaced by the blaze. Their identities were not released.

"The fire was not at the Haro home," Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, told Patch on Wednesday. "It was another home on the opposite side of the street. There is no indication at this point that it was connected to the Haro's.

There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating the Haro baby's disappearance. In an email shortly before 8 p.m., agency spokesperson Mara K. Rodriguez said the department had no information about the fire or whether it had any impact on the Haro residence.

The Emmanuel Haro missing person investigation has gripped the local area. Rodriguez confirmed Tuesday afternoon that no arrests have been made in the case. The 7-month-old boy was reported missing five days ago. However, the child's parents have not been eliminated as suspects.

Search warrants were served at the Haros' Cabazon home in the 50000 block of Ramona Street, and K-9s were used, the sheriff's department confirmed Monday.

"Investigators have not ruled out anyone’s involvement and are following up on all leads and tips," Rodriguez said.

Emmanuel was reported missing by his mother, Rebecca Haro, just after 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 14. The woman told investigators that she was at a Big 5 Sporting Goods Store in Yucaipa and went to her vehicle to change Emmanuel's diaper when an unknown male attacked her.

The woman told deputies she was rendered unconscious during the assault, and when she came to, her child was missing, according to a statement from the sheriff's department.

Despite her story of being a victim in a violent crime, Rebecca Haro and her husband, Jake Haro, who is the father of Emmanuel, are under a cloud of suspicion.

According to the sheriff's department, the agency has not ruled out foul play.

Some news outlets reported that "cadaver dogs" were used during the search warrant service at the Haros' home, but sheriff's spokesperson Gloria Orejel declined to elaborate. In an email on Tuesday, she said, "The specifics on the type of K9s and what, if anything, was found is not being released at this point in the investigation."

On Tuesday, it was reported that Jake Haro's vehicle was seized by law enforcement.

Additionally, a young child at the family residence was removed Sunday by Riverside County Child and Family Services officers, according to Rodriguez. A reason was not provided.

Rebecca Haro's statement to investigators has been inconsistent, and when confronted with the apparent conflicts, she declined to continue with law enforcement questioning, the sheriff's department alleged.

Jake Haro has a criminal history in Riverside County involving child abuse. In 2018, he and his then-partner, Vanessa Haro aka Vanessa Avina, were charged in Riverside County with felony child cruelty. Jake Haro pleaded guilty in 2023 and was later sentenced to four years' probation and was ordered to serve 180 days in jail on the work release program. The court suspended six years in prison as part of his plea, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

Vanessa Haro pleaded guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge of child cruelty.

In a separate case filed in July 2024 in Riverside County, Jake Haro was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and with violating his probation terms. He is due in court Sept. 2 to answer those charges, according to the DA's office.

The attorney who represented Jake Haro during the child cruelty case is reportedly working for him again amid the investigation into his son's disappearance. Patch left a message for that attorney, but did not receive an immediate callback.

It's unclear whether Rebecca Haro has obtained an attorney.

As is often the case when a child goes missing, an Amber Alert is issued. One was not activated for Emmanuel because a vehicle and suspect description are required for an alert to be issued, Rodriguez said.

Emmanuel is described as about 24 inches tall, weighing about 21 pounds, with brown hair and crossed brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call 911 or the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 909-387-8313. Anonymous tips can be provided online or by calling 1-800-782-7463.
