Inland Empire Sees Heat Warning Extended
Sunday's highs were expected to reach 117 in Coachella and Palm Springs, and Monday will be similarly scorching.
RIVERSIDE, CA — Temperatures soared far into triple digits in parts of Riverside County again Sunday, as heat warnings remained in effect for the Fourth of July weekend.
An excessive heat warning was in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for Indio, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Palm Desert Country, La Quinta, Coachella and Borrego Springs, the National Weather Service reported.
A less severe heat advisory was issued for the same duration for the Riverside County valleys including the city of Riverside.

Sunday's highs were expected to reach 117 in Coachella and Palm Springs, 103 in Hemet, 98 in downtown Riverside and 90 in Temecula. Monday will be similarly scorching, with temperatures expected to begin a slight decline on Tuesday's official holiday and drop by up to 10 degrees by next weekend, forecasters said.
"Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the midday sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the NWS advised. "Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."

High temperatures significantly increase the potential for heat- related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
The hot and dry conditions were also creating elevated wildfire risk.
