Kitchen Fire Displaces 3, Kills Family Dog In RivCo Apartment
Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to neighboring units, but the apartment was left uninhabitable and three adults were displaced.
RIVERSIDE, CA — A kitchen fire tore through a Riverside apartment Wednesday morning, displacing three adults and killing a dog, according to city fire officials.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:10 a.m. to the 2900 block of Canyon Crest Drive, where crews found an apartment unit engulfed in flames originating from the kitchen, the Riverside Fire Department reported. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack while performing a primary search of the residence.
Crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading to neighboring units. During the search, firefighters rescued a dog from the apartment, but the animal later died from fire-related injuries.

An Arson Investigator responded to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The apartment was deemed uninhabitable, and three adults were displaced. The American Red Cross was called in to provide assistance. Fire officials said no firefighters were injured.

One person who attempted to extinguish the fire before crews arrived was evaluated on scene by paramedics. A SAVE Card, a financial assistance tool offered to victims of fire or other emergencies, was issued to the primary resident.
