Woman Attacked In Lake Arrowhead By Family Member Armed With Fireplace Poker: Cops

The suspect, Nathan Ryan Shepard, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

LAKE ARROWHEAD, CA — A 36-year-old Lake Arrowhead man was behind bars Monday after he allegedly attacked a family member with a fireplace poker.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Nathan Ryan Shepard is being held at West Valley Jail in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of attempted murder after he attacked a woman in his family. Their relationship is not immediately clear; her identity was not released.

An investigation into the alleged violence unfurled on Thursday, Sept. 4, when deputies were called to the 100 block of Maple Drive in Lake Arrowhead. The victim called 911 and said she was attacked by Shepard.

Shepard left the scene before deputies arrived, but during an investigation at the location, it was determined that he "attacked and assaulted the victim with a metal fireplace aerator poker across her upper body and head," according to the sheriff's department.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where she was diagnosed with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's department said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Shepard. On Sunday, he was tracked down at a strip mall in Chino and arrested by local police.

Jail records show Shepard is due in court on Tuesday. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
