Deputies responded to the major injury traffic crash in the area of Sanderson and Cottonwood avenues about 8:40 a.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Bryan De Loss of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"The preliminary investigation revealed a burgundy, Scion coupe was traveling northbound on Sanderson Avenue, veered to the right and collided into the drainage culvert causing major damage to the vehicle," he said in a news release. All four victims were taken to a hospital in Moreno Valley, where one of the children was pronounced dead the same day, De Loss said. On Saturday around 5 p.m., a second child died at the hospital.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, De Loss said.
