Man Jumps To His Death From RivCo Freeway Bridge

A welfare check followed by a police pursuit had a tragic end Sunday night.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A welfare check led Riverside police to pursue a man in his vehicle until he stopped and jumped to his death from a freeway overpass, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded to the University neighborhood to check on a man who was possibly distraught at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday, said Riverside police Officer Ryan J. Railsback.

"Several minutes later, they saw the described man's vehicle driving and attempted to contact him, but he failed to yield for a few minutes," Railsback said. "He stopped on the 60/215/91 freeway interchange, got out, then jumped off. He was located below and pronounced deceased."
